It seems Big Brother is always watching you and from what I hear, more and more employers are conducting checks into more varied areas of life (eg Google searches, checking Facebook and Twitter accounts).

I'm so glad I don't have to apply for jobs!

Great comments from the other side of the desk, Ingrid. It can be a small world and it is always wise advice not to criticize others or burn your bridges too quickly.

I agree Beverley. After sitting on the other side of the table for years, it never ceased to amaze me how people were willing to "slag off" at a previous boss - not realising that we look for things such as loyalty and trust.

Being negative about a past boss shows you don't have these traits - and also shows you are indiscreet and don't have good judgement about who to share your war stories with. It makes us wonder how you will represent our company if you worked with us.

I love that! This is exactly what I did this morning, but it worked. Well, sitting at a blank computer screen until the blood doplets formed.

After about 1/2 a litre of blood had dripped from my forehead the words began to flow freely and I've managed to write for hours on end. :)

That's great Beverley. The scariest part is that these things do actually get written in resumes every day - and it's one of the quickest ways to make sure you don't get the job!

In this tough market, federal positions applicants must be competitive enough to get the post. Getting help from professional resume writers will surely be of great importance. That is right. It would be good if you will have to have someone go over your work or like what you said hire a professional resume writer to come up with a resume that would surely create an impact.

It's often all too easy to be too close to your own work to be able to assess it accurately. Another pair of honest and detailed oriented eyes is always a great move.
